Studio Ghibli to receive Busan International Film Festival’s 2015 Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award

This year’s Busan International Film Festival will award Studio Ghibli with the 2015 Asian Filmmaker of the Year. The award is to honor “an Asian filmmaker or group that has significantly contributed to the development of the Asian film industry and Asian culture.”

Since the award’s inception in 2003, Studio Ghibli will be the second company to ever receive this award. At the festival, co-founder Toshio Suzuki has been slated to accept the award, and My Neighbor Totoro and Only Yesterday will screen during the festival.

Although renown co-founder Hayao Miyazaki has retired from the feature film industry back in 2013, both co-founders (Miyazaki and Suzuki) have stayed with the studio, doing little projects.
