Fox and Simon Kinberg still plan on making a Fantastic Four sequel

The reboot of Fantastic Four was recently released a couple months ago and received completely abysmal reviews and viewing numbers. No one was asking for a reboot, however, Fox didn’t care what anyone thought and still sent it to production. Despite this huge box office bomb, it is still planning to move forward with a sequel set to release for 2017. Writer and producer Simon Kinberg had some pretty interesting things to say about this via MTV News.

“I’m really focused on the next one, I do believe there is a great ’Fantastic Four’ movie that we’ve made with that cast. So I’m gonna figure out what that is. We’re figuring out what that movie would be. I’d like that to happen.”

They also asked Kinberg how he felt about the terrible response this reboot received.

“I was obviously disappointed, I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.”

“I’ve been on plenty of happy movies that don’t turn out to be very good movies, I’ve been on a lot of unhappy, difficult sets that turn out to be great movies. There was a lot of attention on the process of making that movie. It’s hard when you’re making a movie, movies are hard to make. It’s just the reality.”

Dumb Face

This was our faces after reading that quote.

First of all, with all due respect Mr. Kinberg, did you really care about the fans? Perhaps deep down you did, but someone up there at Fox sure doesn’t. If the fans were really first on your minds, then this reboot wouldn’t have been made. Secondly, if the fans were first on your minds, then a SEQUEL shouldn’t even have crossed anyone’s minds up there after that travesty of a reboot. The fact that the main actress, Kate Mara, hasn’t seen the movie yet speaks volumes.

I’m going to break it down for you because I believe the main issue here is Fox’s pride and ego. There had been speculation that they created this movie just to keep the rights to these characters away from Marvel Studios. Fox saw how much money Marvel Studios acquired in such a small amount of time and wanted to replicate it. This is why they’re still holding on for dear life to the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four because they want to make their own Avengers blockbuster. However try as they might, the only good thing going for Fox right now is their X-Men series and Deadpool.

Whatever Fox decides to do will be completely up to the powers that be. I truly hope that they have the proper sense of mind to NOT move forward with another crapfest since maybe only a small handful of people actually liked the reboot. Sure a $100+ million movie might please those few, but I guarantee you that this last movie has left such a bad taste in everyone’s mouth that a sequel would bomb further even if it was a great movie.
