According to Jesse Eisenberg Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice won’t be cartoonish

Jesse Eisenberg is no stranger to the big screen, however in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie, he’s going to be taking on the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s ultimate rival. If you didn’t know, historically Lex Luthor is one of the most conniving villains Superman has ever faced since he hides behind his humanity, and exploits that to utilize against Superman, i.e. making the common people a reason to hate him. We’ve all seen the pictures of Eisenberg with this shaved head and a short clip of him saying “The red capes are coming! The red capes are coming!” in their recent trailer, and it’s going to be interesting to see Eisenberg’s take on the character when the movie is released. In fact this movie is going to set the bar for the DCEU; no offence to Man of Steel.

Eisenberg recently appeared on the Today Show and expressed how he he felt about playing Lex and how this movie will differ:

“Yes, it is like the most incredible character. It was written by this guy, Chris Terrio. This is like his first movie after Argo. He’s just this brilliant writer of characters. So this movie is not this kind of cartoonish superhero movie. It is very serious and well acted, well written, well directed movie. It’s really phenomenal.”

I’m not exactly sure what Eisenberg was stating by saying that it’s not “cartoonish”, perhaps this is a side jab at the other movies in the market or it’s just his way of interpreting the script. However deep down to the very core of the movie, it’s still a comic book film. You can make a Batman quote Shakespearean dialogue to Wonder Woman as many times as you want, however it doesn’t change the fact that they’re people in costumes, flying around, shooting lasers out of their eyes, smashing buildings and bad guys, while trying to save the world. If that’s not “cartoonish”, I don’t know what what is. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice releases next year, so we’ll have to wait and see what this blockbuster has in store for all of us comic book movie fans. 🙂
