Review: iClever Himbox HB01 PLUS Bluetooth 4.0 Hands-Free Car Kit

The iClever Himbox HB01 PLUS Bluetooth car kit offers drivers a way to wirelessly connect their phones to their stereos if their car does not have Bluetooth built in and for a great price. Drivers are then able to connect their phones via Bluetooth to listen to music from their phone or take calls. However, there is a catch.

The HB01 is extremely easy to set up. Plug the Aux connector into the aux port on your car stereo, plug the USB plug into the included USB car charger and turn it on. If Bluetooth is enabled on your phone, it should pair nearly instantly. Sound quality is great with minimal tweaking between the stereo volume and the HB01 volume. Once you are dialed in, the call quality is fantastic on both ends. In testing, the person I called heard no echoes coming from my speakers back into the mic, and I was able to hear them perfectly. Depending on your phone, you may need to make some adjustments in volume when switching from calls to music, but it isn’t bad. The included USB charger comes with 3 ports, one for the HB01 and 2 extras. This makes it nice if you need to charge your phone or another device while on the road. Also included is a magnetic clip that the mic can be mounted on as well as a magnetic pad that can be stuck on your dash using the attached 3M tape. Lastly, the HB01 comes at a great price from Amazon. At the time of this review, it is going for only $40.

Although the HB01 allows you to connect your phone to your stereo wirelessly, there is a fair amount of cord involved. The cord coming off the mic splits in two at about the middle with one end being the USB and the other being the Aux end. Depending on where your USB and Aux ports are, this can create a cumbersome set up with cords all over your dash. In my car, the Aux port is on the face of the stereo while the charger port is near the bottom cubby, in the center near the floor. This means I have cords all over the face of the stereo. The placement of the mic also can have an effect on cord management. For me, the most convenient place for the mic is on my visor. I ended up stringing the mic from my stereo up to the rear view mirror, wrapping it around once, then stringing it across to my visor. I am not a fan of sticking things to my dash, so the sticky magnetic pad was not an option. And since the point of Bluetooth is to be wireless, it seemed counter productive to string the mic to my seatbelt and clip it there.

Final Reaction

All in all, this is a great product that works well, but with some inconvenient setup requirements depending on your car’s setup. The sound quality is great, there is no echoing during the car and music comes through clear. The included accessories make add a nice touch and give a variety of options for placement. However, where your car’s plugs are should be taken into consideration before purchase. Maybe if you have the option to connect everything in your center console and string the mic out to your dash neatly, this would be a great option for you. Another great solution would be if there was an option to connect it to the Aux plug. That way there is one plug for the USB charger and the setup looks cleaner for cars like mine.
