Anime California has strong showing in its second year
As August comes to a close, so does another convention. These are the last few months to catch a convention near you, so hit one while you still can. This also means it’s harder to get people to show up unless you have a large name backing you or are already well established. Anime California enters only in its second year, and it has already shown improvements. It was held in a different location this time at the Anaheim Marriott, which is about 1.5 blocks or so from last year’s location of the Hyatt.
This year seemed to have a much better attendance in comparison to last year. In speaking to some of the attendees, it seemed like it was either their first convention or their early years in the con scene. The cosplayers ranged from the beginners all the way to the pros. It was cool to see so many cosplayers this year and hopefully even more next year, given that there’s another one. Not that the hotel was a bad choice, but maybe they can even get space at the convention center.
Overall, I felt like it was a bit too crowded, which in a way is a good problem to have, but made it hard for those with big/elaborate cosplays to move around. Also, some people had issues with restrooms too. All in all it was a great experience to be a part of and hopefully with its turnout, it will be back again.
