When you think of Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast, the odds are you’re probably thinking of the Disney animated films. With many of these fairy tale movies, the Disney versions are considered to be the “definitive” versions to many. Now Disney wants to do the same with Jack and the Beanstalk with a new movie called Gigantic. There hasn’t been “the” Jack and the Beanstalk movie that can get people excited and have them share with their loved ones. (Sorry, Jack the Giant Slayer).

Frozen fans should be excited to know that songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are working on the project. The duet have created a phenomenon with songs like “Let It Go” and “Love Is an Open Door”, and now they”ll try to do it again with Gigantic. During D23 Expo, fans were treated to a live demo performance of one of its song by the couple. The sequence wasn’t finalized, but attendees got to see the animated storyboards, featuring our main character, Jack, getting played like a toy by a giant 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl named Inma.

The film will be directed by Nathan Greno (Tangled) and produced by Dorothy McKim (Get A Horse!).

Gigantic takes place during the Spanish Age of Exploration and follows Jack who discovers a world filled with giants within the clouds. He helps Inma find her way home while also coming up with a big plan with her.

Gigantic hits theaters in 2018.
