Disney working on live-action remake of Sword in the Stone

Disney is pumping out live-action movies adapted from its animated classics. It’s like from here on out they just won’t stop, but hey, I’m okay with it.

Right after a live-action prequel of Aladdin was revealed to be in the works, now we have another cool news! The House of the Mouse plans to do a remake of The Sword in the Stone, according to Variety.

Game of Thrones writer and producer Bryan Cogman is said to be taking care of the screenplay and Brigham Taylor, who has credits in Pirates of the Caribbean, will be producing.

Check out Cogman’s tweet of him being honored and a photo of him trying to lift the sword:

If you’re unsure what The Sword in the Stone is about, it follows the story of a young King Arthur who is under the teachings of a wizard named Merlin. A sword one day appears in a stone, and whoever manages to remove it will be marked the next king. It takes place in the dark ages, and has fantasy written all over it. It was also the last film to be released before Walt Disney’s death.

Being a fantasy film, I have no doubt in Cogman to develop a beautiful screenplay. We don’t have much information on the film now, but I’m hoping to hear more about a release date and a cast soon. Because who wouldn’t be excited for this?
