Capcom takes Street Fighter V Beta down after launch

Well, that didn’t last long, now did it? Were you one of the many trying to get on the Street Fighter V Beta? Capcom was busy trying to fix the connectivity issue, but in the end, the servers were no match for the onslaught of Street Fighter fans craving a piece of the online fighting action. Just be glad that this was the beta and not a demo or the full game. (Better to have Capcom test the online mode in Beta than to have a failed launch of the full game.)

The beta went live at 6 p.m. PST yesterday, but people were having issues connecting online. Over an hour later, Capcom took down the server to fix the issue. However, the issue persisted with people not being able to play at all.

It looks like fans won’t be able to play the game this weekend, since Capcom has decided to do an extended maintenance. Here’s what the PR rep (via Kotaku) had to say:

“We apologize for the ongoing issues that users have been experiencing with the SFV beta test. In order to allow us to fix the issues as quickly as possible, we are going to initiate a period of extended maintenance, during which time the beta will be unavailable to all users. We will let you know the date on which the closed beta test will re-open once all problems have been fixed. We sincerely apologize for having to bring this unfortunate news to you. Thank you for your patience. Please stay tuned for further updates.”

So if you’re still holding your PS4 controller and pressing “x” repeatedly, you can stop now until further notice.
