San Andreas director Brad Peyton teams up with familiar faces to direct latest video game adaptation, Rampage!

When we used to go to the arcades (when actually GOING to an arcade was still a thing), some of my friends would run up to play Mortal Kombat, some would run to go play Street Fighter, and some would even stick to their purist roots and head to Galaga. Me? I was the one who never let myself become tied to just one game, but one who appreciated ALL games. One of the games I had found a special fondness for was Midway’s Rampage. Now, with the power of the almighty Hollywood, not only is the game being made into a major motion film, but now it seems we may have found our director!

The destructive mind behind this summer’s successful catastrophe movie, San Andreas, Brad Peyton is in talks with New Line Cinema to direct Rampage. Alongside Peyton, other key players from the disaster flick are teaming up to make this video game-to-big screen adaption a reality, such as Dwayne Johnson, who will be starring, and Beau Flynn, who is producing. This film will mark the fourth film under Peyton’s belt as director, and right off the heels of the immense success of San Andreas, bringing in over $460 million, globally.

The film also helms screenwriter Ryan Engle, the man behind the film Non-Stop, starring Liam Neeson. As far as information on a plot, the only thing Engle has stated is that the focus will be consistent with the game, as the three monsters – a gorilla, a lizard and a wolf – wreak havoc on major cities and landmarks across North America, with Johnson standing in their path. Seeing as in the game, you play the creatures, I’m a little uncertain as to whether or not this film will create villains out of these creatures, or maybe create allies for an even greater threat.

Rampage will be let loose upon the world in 2017.
