Star Wars: Episode VIII to have Benicio del Toro as a villain?

Star Wars: Episode VIII is the next Star Wars film after The Force Awakens and Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, and there is a new rumor that Benicio Del Toro (Snatch, Guardians of the Galaxy) may have a chance to play the villain, according to TheWrap. The actor received an offer to be in the sci-fi fantasy movie from director and writer Rian Johnson (Looper).

If Del Toro does get to play the villain, will we see some kind of setup in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Perhaps we may get an appearance in the form of an after-credits scene? One can hope.

Then we have Heroic Hollywood’s El Mayimbe reporting that Joaquin Phoenix turned down the offer that Benicio got for Star Wars: Episode VIII. First Doctor Strange and now this? Does he have something against sci-fi and comic books now? Perhaps his new movie, Irrational Man, best describes his movie role choices.

Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
