Aladdin getting live-action prequel

And the trend continues. There have been several announcements regarding live-action versions of animated stories going into production, and now Aladdin joins that list. The 1992 animated Disney film will be getting a live-action prequel.

That prequel will be called Genies. Developed by Disney, it’ll be a live-action comedy adventure that is being written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift and produced by Tripp Vinson via his Vinson Films banner.

Aladdin tells the story of the titular character who is granted three wishes by a boisterous genie played by the late great Robin Williams in an iconic role. This new project will focus on the realm of the Genies and reveal how Robin Williams’ character came to be enslaved in the magic lamp.

There are no concrete plans as of now, but the hope is that this film will lead to an Aladdin live-action movie.
