Emma Watson shows no signs of slowing down in her post-Harry Potter days. Variety reports that the young actress will join veteran Tom Hanks in the upcoming movie adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel “The Circle”, written and directed by James Ponsoldt.

Watson will portray an employee hired for a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.

Alicia Vikander, no stranger to high-tech thrillers, had been attached to star in The Circle, but has left the project.

“Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to The Circle,” Ponsoldt said.

The film is being produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone, Anthony Bregman for Likely Story and Ponsoldt. The film will be presented by Image Nation in association with Parkes MacDonald Productions. Shooting is scheduled to start in September in California.
