E3 2015: Disgaea 5 features plenty of overlords… and prinnies

Featured-Disgaea-5

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is heading to the PlayStation 4 later this year, and at E3 NIS America was showing off just what fans can expect from the sixth installment of the series.

Disgaea 5 will have a focus on multiple netherworlds (around one per each chapter). Of course if the Disgaea series has taught us anything, it’s that each netherworld has its own overlord as they come together for the game’s primary theme: the revenge against the Demon Emperor, Void Dark.

The build we’re able to see at E3 was still early into development, so most of it was still in Japanese. If you played the game before it’s still pretty easy to pick up. D5 added a revenge system which is only available for overlord characters. As the characters take damage or a party member falls, they unlock an all-powerful revenge attack. Certain characters can pair up for double attacks to cause more damage. More than 100 characters can appear on the screen at once, which is a big change from previous games where it was more limited. There will be a lot more havoc going on in the screen, and in terms of characters, players will see new classes including fairies, dark knights and even maids!

Skills and special moves are just as over the top as all the previous games in the series, including the all powerful Omega spells and Tera spells. There is still so much more to see from the game. The number one thing I’m looking forward to is seeing which characters from previous NIS America games will be returning as DLC. While not an important part of the game, it’s always fun to play as characters from previous NIS games to create the ultimate team, even if it includes an army of prinnies. So far Disgaea 5 looks visually stunning, showing that 2D games are still enjoyable and has an amazing soundtrack being a solid JRPG to look forward to soon.
