Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross do commentary for WWE 2K16’s Stone Cold Attitude Era mode

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around 2K Sports’ next WWE title, WWE 2K16. One of the more promising rumors has been the inclusion of a Stone Cold Steve Austin-focused story mode that would take fans back down memory lane through glorified years of the Attitude Era. Multiple sources claim that it will be similar to last year’s John Cena vs CM Punk showcase and HHH vs Shawn Michaels in WWE 2K15. Jerry “The King” Lawler later confirmed this in an interview, saying that he and long-time announcer Jim Ross were working together again for the game:

“We’re already working on that. A lot of people ask about my old broadcast partner. They’re having in this year’s game, a big Stone Cold Steve Austin Attitude Era section and they have me and J.R. back together again in the studio doing voice-overs for that.”

So far it is unconfirmed who will be the rival for Steve Austin, but a recent leaked video from behind-the-scenes shows Jerry Lawler and good ol’ JR doing commentary for a tag-team match of Steve Austin with Shawn Michaels.

Some may not remember, but at one time both Austin and Michaels were Tag Team Champions together before their feud for the title that resulted in Austin becoming the champ and Michaels leaving on an indefinite hiatus. At the time, Michaels was feuding with The Hart Foundation and their leader, Bret “The Hitman” Hart. Austin and Michaels teamed up and ultimately won the Tag Titles from Owen Hart and The British Bulldog. Michaels and Austin were later stripped of the titles due to Michaels not being able to compete due to his injuries. Austin would try to take on Hart and Davey Boy Smith alone to retain the titles, but would later in the match receive help from the new alter-ego of Mick Foley, Dude Love. Together with The Dude, Austin would become a Tag Team Champion once again.

It is unclear if this confirms that Michaels will be his focused rival in the showcase, or if it could be a combination of his most famous rivalries as a whole. More than likely we can expect to hear more at E3. So stay tuned.
