Kickstarter: ‘For the Love of Spock’: A documentary about the life of Leonard Nimoy

Three months after the death of Leonard Nimoy, a Kickstarter was started to raise funds about the late actor’s life. His son, Adam, announced to Variety that he plans on producing and directing the documentary that will be called For the Love of Spock. The Kichstarter aims to collect $600,000 to create the documentary by next year for the 50th Anniversary of the first episode of Star Trek, which originally aired on September 8, 1966.

Zachary Quinto, who portrayed Spock in the new Star Trek films, will narrate the documentary. David Zappone, Kevin Layne, and Joseph Kornbrodt of 455 Films are set to produce the films.

In his Kickstarter, Adam explained the reasoning, “Earlier this year, my father and I reached out to 455 Films to help us produce this project. 455 Films is made up of producers David Zappone, Kevin Layne and Joseph Kornbrodt. Dad chose this company because he was familiar with the Star Trek related films they have produced with William Shatner and was impressed with their work. David, Kevin and Joseph are also very well versed in the Star Trek tradition, and have worked previously with all of the important players in the world of Star Trek.”

The rewards for each level are great for Trekkies and Nimoy fans. It ranges from a digital download of Spock’s collectibles, never-before-seen interviews with Nimoy and his family, and personal photos from the actor’s life  to attending the LA/NY film screening to rare autographs and collectibles.
