May 9 is now Goku Day

May 9th is now an official day for Dragonball Z’s goofy hero, Goku!

The studio Toei applied to the Japanese Anniversary Association to recognize the day as “Goku Day” which is a bit of a pun because in Japanese the numbers 5 and 9 is pronounced “Go” and “Ku” respectively.

Along with the new holiday, the show is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the release of a new movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F.

I encourage everyone to put your hands up in the air today and give Goku the energy he needs to continue protecting our planet.

Happy Goku Day everyone!
