If there’s one thing Japan is known for, it’s for being super nerdy. Now President Obama has adds to that by thanking Japan for anime, manga, emoji, and more. This was during Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to the White House as they discuss free trade.

“Today is a chance for Americans, especially our young people, to say thank you for all the things we love from Japan. Like karate and karaoke. Manga and anime. And, of course, emojis,” said President Obama.

The President grew up with comic books including Conan and Spider-Man (he appeared in an issue of Spider-Man) and was a fan of Star Trek, so to hear him thanking Japan for the nerdy stuff actually has meaning compared to a president who isn’t into nerdy things.
