Is Spider-Man: The New Avenger the title for Marvel/Sony Spider-Man film?

The rumor mill is spinning and it’s for the upcoming Marvel/Sony Spider-Man movie due out in 2017. With no casting or story yet to be revealed, so much has been speculated about the web crawler’s next adventure. Seems like someone has heard some rumbling but warns no confirmation to the news.

Umberto Gonzalez is no stranger to releasing movie rumors, and now he is reporting that the possible title for the upcoming film may be Spider-Man: The New Avenger.

The title itself bears resemblance to Captain America: The First Avenger, and given Spidey’s role as an Avenger, it is plausible. If the rumor proves to be true, it answers a few questions people still have about the Sony/Marvel partnership. For starters, we know Sony is letting Marvel borrow Spidey for an MCU movie and a collaborated Spider-Man movie. The success of those two can lead to more deals between Sony and Marvel, but naming the movie Spider-Man: The New Avenger almost confirms Spidey’s role in Avengers: Infinity War. As the instagram post states, take this with a grain of salt for now, but here’s to hoping Spider-Man joining and staying in the MCU even if Sony has a hand in it.
