Transformers 5 coming 2017?

It was revealed last month that Paramount is working on creating a Transformers universe, so that the main films and the possible spin-off films will have a common ground. Now Hasbro revealed during its first quarter earnings call when we can expect to see the next Transformers film.

“Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired,” Brian Goldner President and CEO of Hasbro says. “We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman] to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers – we think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.”

There are many who aren’t fans of Michael Bay’s direction with the films, so those potential spin-off films may get another director who’ll bring their own vision.

Leading the “writer’s room” is writer Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend). Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be helping with the development of the team. Goldman, even though he’s overseeing the planning, won’t be responsible for writing the script for the films.

Will we see Mark Wahlberg return as the father and scientist?

“Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more. I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on set soon.”
