Matthew Vaughn in talks to direct Flash Gordon

Matthew Vaughn has made a name for himself with movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service and X-Men: First Class. Now he’s in talks to direct a new Flash Gordon movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is based on the comic strip by artist Alex Raymond back in 1934. It follows the adventures of Gordon, Dale Arden and mad scientist Hans Zasrkov as they fight the evil ruler Ming the Merciless on a planet called Mongo. It was a big inspiration to many, including George Lucas and his Star Wars series and the 1980 movie with catchy theme song by Queen.

John Davis and King Features will be producing the film, which Davis has spent over a year getting the rights from Hearst Corporation. The script has been done by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek 3) from a treatment by Nolfi.
