Mortal Kombat X: Why are we paying for DLC characters if they’re free?

mortal kombat x jason voorhees

Mortal Kombat X will have DLC characters like Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series and Predator. The idea of DLC is that it gives gamers extra content after the game is produced and has gone gold. Some games have been known to include DLC content on the disc; for example, Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken. This resulted in an outcry from the fanbase. NetherRealm may be joining Capcom with its on-disc DLC.

According to Ed Boon (via his Twitter), Mortal Kombat X will allow gamers to play DLC characters for free. You’ll be able to play them or fight against them in Premiere Towers without buying them.

He went on to clarify that if there’s a Jason Premiere Tower, you can play as him in that tower… for free.

If this is the case, why are we paying for DLC characters if they are already in the game? Why not just include them in the game to begin with, so that gamers can play as them in the other modes?

But…if the DLC characters are available via a day-one update and not available on the actual disc, then I think it’s forgivable.

What do you guys think?
