Tomb Raider reboot is the most successful in the franchise

Crystal Dynamics did a smart thing when it decided to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise. Yesterday the studio announced that 2013’s Tomb Raider sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide, making it the #1 Tomb Raider game.

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, since it was trying to break even during the initial launch, and according to Square Enix, it didn’t meet expectations. It finally started to profit after the release of Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition for the PS4 and Xbox One. This lead to an announcement of the sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

However, sales for the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider game might not be able to match the sales of its predecessor, since it’s going to be a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. However, that may change once it finally gets released for the PS4 and PS3.

Do you think Rise of the Tomb Raider being a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will hurt sales?
