Spotify is the ultimate music streaming service that allows users to listen to music on-demand, from a playlists, or on a user-created radio. The selection of songs is very extensive, since they can choose from over 30 million tracks. This week Spotify is now available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. (Sorry, Xbox users, this is exclusive to Sony’s consoles.)

I’ve been testing this out on the PS4, and it’s simply one of the coolest new features. You can log in via an app on the console, or you can sync up the app from your smartphone to your console. Syncing up your Spotify app from the phone to the console is my preferred choice, since your phone acts as a remote control, allowing you to choose and skip songs as you’re playing with the DualShock 4 controller.

I tested out Resident Evil: Revelations 2, and the game instantly recognized when I’m playing music through Spotify. Once that happens, the game turns off the in-game background music, allowing me to have a custom background music on the fly. Having your character running around and shooting the infected with the Gladiator soundtrack is pretty neat…and then Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It” comes up out of nowhere.

Many older games won’t have that automatic features. I tested Grand Theft Auto Online, and the background music and radio levels weren’t changed. It’s an easy fix, since you can just go to the game’s audio settings and turn off the music level.

Expect the Spotify team to bring out new updates and more enhanced features.

Spotify on PlayStation Music is now available in 41 markets.
