BBC has released a statement announcing Games of Thrones star Maisie Williams to guest star in an episode of next season’s Doctor Who.

It is unknown who Williams will be playing, but head writer Steven Moffatt hints she will give the Doctor ‘the right sort of hell’.  He stated, “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”

Maisie commented about her first day on set, “I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”

Based on George R.R. Martin’s books, we know Arya Stark is going to be around for multiple seasons, so she isn’t going to replace Jenna Coleman as a companion. Maisie continues to work for the hit HBO show and won’t be leaving anytime soon.

Doctor Who returns this August with their ninth season. They are currently filming two period adventures – ‘The Girl Who Died’ written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat, and ‘The Woman Who Lived’ by Catherine Tregenna, both directed by Ed Bazalgette (BBC One’s 18th Century drama Poldark). The ninth season will star Peter Capaldi as the Doctor with Jenna Coleman returning as his companion Clara.
