Lea Thompson on whether she would do another Howard the Duck movie

Ever since Howard made his triumphant return in Guardians of the Galaxy, many have been wondering what is next for the feathered extraterrestrial. Hard to believe it has been almost 30 years since the film adaptation was released in 1986.

Recently, Howard The Duck’s leading lady and ’80s hit movie star Lea Thompson appeared during the Vintage Sound Tony podcast and talked about if she’d be interested in returning if they did a new movie.

“I think they would stay as far away from me as possible. They would probably want to reinvent the franchise. I think they wish that movie would go away, so that they could do it again without all the hoopla about Howard the Duck. But so many people love that movie, I’m not embarrassed about it.”

While the 1986 movie may have a cult-like following, it was a colossal failure at the box office and currently has a 14% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

With Guardians being such a huge hit, many believe that this could be the the jump-start needed to bring Howard back into the limelight. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said in an interview that there is a good chance that the character could appear again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It’s possible Howard could reappear as more of a character in the Marvel Universe. But if people think that’s going to lead to a Howard The Duck movie, that’s probably not going to happen in the next four years. Who knows after that?”
