Tim Burton to direct live-action Dumbo movie?

disney real life - dumbo

I’m actually not surprised by the the news of Tim Burton directing a live-action Dumbo film for Disney. Disney has been recently turning their classic animated films into modern live-action films like Cinderella, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, the upcoming Jungle Book and the upcoming Beauty and the Beaste. The news comes from The Wall Street Journal.

The film is expected to be a mixture of computer generated effects and live actors, although details on the project are still scarce at this early stage of development. [Disney’s President of Production Sean] Bailey would only say of the plans for a new “Dumbo” story that “It’s a big world,” indicating that the story will be broader than the original tale of a circus elephant with large ears who learns to fly.

Are you looking forward to a live-action elephant flying? Perhaps we’ll get to see a live-action Lion King film soon?

Once the film comes out, Disney can capitalize on the Dumbo ride at Disneyland. Perhaps this time Burton will hire Helena Bonham Carter to play Dumbo, with Johnny Depp as the ringmaster.
