Lucy Lawless joins Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead series starring Bruce Campbell

Starz is working on the Evil Dead series called Ash vs Evil Dead with Bruce Campbell returning as Ash. Today it has announced that Lucy Lawless (Xena, Spartacus, Battlestar Galactica, Salem) will be joining and playing the part of Ruby. The series will be filming in New Zealand this spring and premiering later this year on Starz.

Ruby is a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: she believes that Ash is the cause of it all.

Lawless will be working with executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert again, since they have worked together on Xena: Warrior Princess and Spartacus. She will also be working with Campbell again, since they worked together before on Xena.

The series also stars Ray Santiago (Pablo Simon Bolivar), Dana DeLorenzo (Kelly Maxwell) and Jill Marie Jones (Amanda Fisher).

Ash vs Evil Dead will contain 10 half-hour episodes and will follow Ash as the aging stock boy and monster hunter who has been avoiding for 30 years anything related to the Evil Dead.

When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

The pilot will be directed by Raimi, which he co-wrote with Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell), Craig DiGregorio (Workaholics, Chuck) and Tom Spezialy (Chuck, Reaper, Desperate Housewives). Craig DiGregorio (Workaholics, Chuck) will be the executive producer/showrunner, with Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell as the executive producers.
