Norman Reedus on if Daryl is gay: ‘I would rock that story. I’m not afraid of it’
Walking Dead creator Robert Kirman made a big commotion back in August of last year went he said that there was a chance that Norman Reedus’ fan-favorite character, Daryl Dixon, could be gay. The topic has since been a big question on the minds of many fans since then.
Kirkman later revealed that he has no plans to make any sort of big reveal about Dixion’s sexual orientation, but he and many of the other writers on the show, like Scott M. Gimple, are happy that fans still talk about it.
“The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick. That’s been a very satisfying journey for all of us on the creative side to portray. [And] he’s still on that journey. This is a character who is going to continue to grow closer to the other characters and let his guard down, and let them see just who he is, in every way.”
Even Reedus himself revealed in a GQ interview that original showrunner Frank Darabont had plans to make Daryl “prison gay” in the show.
Recently, Norman was on Conan when he was asked again about the sexual preference of Daryl. He revealed in the interview that the idea has received some mixed reaction from fans. Even more recently, the show received backlash from some fans over new characters Eric and Aaron kissing in Episode 11.
“Tell you the truth, if that’s the story they gave me, I would rock that story. I’m not afraid of it.”
