Spock smashes Scissors

spock rock

One of the cemented additions to Roshambeau, also known as Paper-Scissors-Rock, is the inclusion of “Lizard” and “Spock” thanks to Sam Kass. With the recent passing of Leonard Nimoy, a particular piece of art caught me eye. If you have not seen this piece of work, here it is below.

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock

For an explanation on how the inclusion of “Lizard” and “Spock” works:

Scissors cuts paper. Paper covers rock. Rock crushes lizard. Lizard poisons Spock. Spock smashes scissors. Scissors decapitates lizard. Lizard eats paper. Paper disproves Spock. Spock vaporizes rock. And as it always has, rock crushes scissors.

Or if you prefer Sheldon’s animated explanation:

Strangely, a number of people think it originated from Big Bang Theory, but as Sheldon mentioned it was created by Sam Kass and it took off across nerd culture. If anything, it was only amplified by Sheldon’s usage in the show; however, there are still plenty who do not know of Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock.

I’m currently trying to identify the artist and Google has yielded only a string of people reposting the illustration. If anyone knows who the artist is, please let us know.

UPDATE:
The artist has been identified as Tom Beland, whom you can find on Twitter under: TomBelandTSSTG. Thanks to Mark Croft for identifying the artist for us. 🙂
