The Hunger Games to get a prequel/sequel?

The Hunger Games

All good things must end, right? Wrong.

Lionsgate is considering extending The Hunger Games film franchise that will surpass the scope of the young adult novel trilogy written by Suzanna Collins.

Jon Feltheimer, Lionsgate CEO, told analysts that he is “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities” in a report from Deadline.

Like many films before it, Mockingjay, the third installment in the trilogy, was split into two movies making the films a quadrilogy.

While no further details have been released about when the prequels and sequel might hold for its audience, any prequel is easily imagined to contain any annual Hunger Games event prior to the plot of The Hunger Games novel (what I would like to see is Mags’ games). Alternatively, the prequel might entail the civil war that lead to the creation of the games.

The sequel on the other hand is harder to pin down what it would be about, since the epilogue shows that twenty years later, the annual Hunger Games are no more and most of the surviving characters are living happily. (Granted I am sure there are some serious psychological problems hiding behind those happy faces.)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay –Part 2 will be released in theaters November 20, furthermore the film has been digitally remastered for IMAX 3D for its debut.
