Fox will recast the Colossus in upcoming Deadpool movie

Holy metallic skin, Batman! This news comes as a surprise to the fans of Fox’s X-Men franchise. Daniel Cudmore has played the role of Colossus since X2 back in 2003, and he just released tweets that he won’t be reprising this role anymore. He did express his gratitude for being able to portray Colossus since that time though.

From what it looks like, Fox seems to be ushering in a new era of actors for their mutants since they’ve also released news that Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm being recast in the next X-Men: Apocalypse. They’ve already green lit Channing Tatum as the new Gambit, so this breaking news shouldn’t come as a surprise for anyone.

Personally speaking, this news is a bit sad to hear since most fans (including myself) of the mutant powerhouse were disappointed in Fox’s portrayal of Colossus on the big screen. Colossus is an integral cog to the machine known as the X-Men, and he didn’t receive any respect in the past films. Daniel Cudmore never got the chance to speak in a proper Russian accent nor was he given enough lines to even show that his character had substance. The only shining moments for Colossus was when he was fighting the future sentinels in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Unfortunately, he ended up just being a mutant pinball and was completely useless. If you want to read more on the “wtf moments” I witnessed in in X-Men: Days of Future Past, you can read here.

Let’s hope Fox redeems Colossus’ character in this upcoming Deadpool movie and not just introduce him and then shelve him in the background. I know a lot of us are excited for Deadpool, but let’s not get too starry eyed with Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. Super powered badassery can be equally handed out to the other characters as well, right? 😉

Deadpool releases in theaters February 12, 2016.
