AMC’s Preacher to change this character’s race?

Many movies and TV shows based on comics have been updating their characters, like changing a character’s race and/or gender. And every time they do it, some fans get really upset. Some examples include Michael Clarke Duncan playing Kingpin, Idris Elba playing Heimdall, and Laurence Fishburne playing Perry White. In the TV realm, we had lesser known characters like Copperhead, a male villain in the comics, being played by actress Lesley-Ann Brandt in Fox’s Gotham. Now prepare for another white comic book character to be played by a black actress, according to SuperHeroHype. That character is Tulip, a blonde character who’s integral to the upcoming Preacher series on AMC.

The live-action series is based on the comic of the same name by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. It will be developed by Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) with The Interview‘s Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

The Vertigo comic follows Reverend Jesse Custer on a journey to find God. He is possessed by Genesis, a creature conceived by an angel and a demon, who has the power to rival God. Joining his dark adventure are Tulip, his ex-girlfriend, and Cassidy, an Irish vampire. Tulip is a strong female character with a secret past of her own.
