Netflix’s Daredevil will be rated TV-MA

The Marvel films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have all been rated PG-13. Shows like Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have been geared towards the TV-14 crowd. With the Netflix and Marvel shows, one would assume that they too would be TV-14. However, that’s not the case with Daredevil, since Netflix has updated the show’s description with a TV-MA rating.

So what’s the show going to have to warrant a TV-MA rating? Nothing was revealed, but usually a TV-MA rating includes graphic violence and/or sex.

Here’s the description of the TV-MA rating in general:

This program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under 17. This program may contain one or more of the following: crude indecent language (L), explicit sexual activity (S), or graphic violence (V).

There were hints of Daredevil being a TV-MA show. The teaser trailer for Daredevil was very gritty and dark. Other hints were Steven S. DeKnight being attached (he was the showrunner for Spartacus) and Daredevil being a dark character.

This rating gives hope to more dark stories, especially with A.K.A. Jessica Jones. (Read  writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos’ Alias.)

Daredevil will contain 13 episodes and will air on April 10th on Netflix.
