Since Marvel Studios can’t use mutants in their Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Fox owning the rights, how are they going to explain the origin of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s powers in Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Well, there’s a digital comic out from Marvel called “Avengers: Age of Ultron Prelude – This Scepter’d Isle,” and if you look at the title closely, it has something to do with the scepter.

Yes, this is Loki’s scepter we’re talking about. The last time we saw the sceptre was when Black Widow was using it to disable the portal that was used for the Chitauri invasion. So how did it end up in Baron Von Strucker’s hands at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier? As you can tell from watching that movie, S.H.I.E.L.D. was compromised by HYDRA.

So what’s the relations between the scepter and Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s powers? The panel below reveals Strucker using the scepter on Pietro, aka Quicksilver, and Wanda, aka Scarlet Witch. It turns out that it was Pietro’s idea to get the powers, since it was assumed that they were forced to becoming test subjects when we saw them in The Winter Soldier.

What do you guys think of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch getting their powers from the scepter?
