A few days ago, web animator Monty Oum was reported to be in the hopsital due to severe health complications. Today, it is with great regret to report that Rooster Teeth’s own Monty Oum passed away yesterday due to a serious allergic reaction that resulted in him falling into a coma. He was 33 years old.

Monty came to the spotlight after releasing the action-filled crossover Haloid featuring a Spartan and Samus fending off waves of enemies while simultaneously battling each other. I’ve followed Monty ever since his Dead Fantasy days and they were some of the coolest animations a 16 year old could fathom. I even had the chance to meet him in person briefly at Fanime just past year. We’ve even interviewed him back in 2013.

Many of his fight choreography were inspired by the likes of movies and anime such as The Matrix and Dragon Ball Z. He garnered a sizable following on deviantART and later worked briefly in the game industry at Midway and Namco Bandai. He soon joined Rooster Teeth to work on the popular Red vs Blue. After several years, he released RWBY, an original animated web series that’s already spawned a global fanbase to this day. A confessed workaholic, he reminded us that with hard work anything is possible and inspired me especially. He also loved K-pop and Arcade Music games.

A crowdfunding campaign was started a few days ago to help alleviate the medical costs. It’s disheartening to know he left us so soon and our hearts go out to his family and friends.

See you Space Cowboy.
