Checking out the Resident Evil: Revelations 2 demo

resident evil revelations 2

On January 15th, I attended the Resident Evil “Fright Club” event at the Dirty Laundry in Hollywood. I was able to preview the demo for Resident Evil: Revelations 2. The first game was made for the Nintendo 3DS, but with the sequel, Capcom decided to make it available on the same day for many platforms including PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It’s going to be an upcoming episodic survival horror video game with a total of 4 episodes.

The game takes place between Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. In the demo I played, you get to play as two different characters, Claire Redfield and Moira, who’s Barry Burton’s daughter. The controls are similar to Resident Evil 6 and Revelation, as you’ll get to shoot and walk at the same time. (That’s always a plus.) However, since it’s a Resident Evil game, ammo will be scarce, and there will be plenty of going back and forth as you try to open doors while defending yourself from enemies. The newest addition is being able to play as a supporting character. Moira will be able to do things Claire can’t, like using a flashlight to discover hidden items. (What? Claire can’t hold a flashlight and shoot a gun at the same time?)

So far the tone and scares feel the same as previous Resident Evil games. Enemies will pop out of nowhere, and you’ll have to have quick reflexes. The technique I used was the running away like a scaredy-cat and then trying to line up my shot.

The demo was really short, so it wasn’t enough for me to determine whether I should be excited for the game or not. However, if you’re a Resident Evil fan, it’s great news to hear that a new game is coming out this year as they get to control one of Resident Evil’s popular characters.

The first episode will debut on February 24, 2015.
