Simon Pegg to co-write upcoming Star Trek film

PEGG

Fans of the Cornetto Trilogy, rejoice!

Although we may not be getting a Shaun of the Dead 2 anytime soon, we should be seeing at least some of Simon Pegg’s comedic sensibilities in the upcoming Star Trek 3 film. Deadline reports that Pegg has been tapped to co-write Star Trek 3 alongside Doug Jung. Pegg has already played a key role in the first two films of the Star Trek franchise reboot, taking on the role of Scotty, the Enterprise’s chief engineer. Although Pegg’s screen time in these films doesn’t match that of the triumvirate of Kirk, Spock, and Uhura, he steals every scene he is in with his effortless charm and humor.

Here’s hoping that Pegg’s writing involvement in this upcoming trilogy will help smooth out some of the rough edges of Star Trek: Into Darkness. No word yet on whether Nick Frost will make a cameo as a young Klingon warrior.
