CES 2015: Wren Audio

NR-CES2015

While a number of vendors displaying their toys and tech can be found on the show floor, some meetings and products can only be seen and experienced in designated hotel suites. This is where I got to meet the founder of Wren Audio, Mike Giffin. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I saw the Wren Speakers, but let me tell you– these devices that measure a bit over a foot in length are EPIC!

Catching the end of one demonstration of these speakers, Mike was able to give me some personal time to talk a little bit about himself, and this is how I understood the man and this product. With the varied life experiences Mike has captured, it is no surprise he’s developed something amazing. These Wren speakers sound beautiful with any song played, especially on smooth jazz. Turn on more speakers and it only enhances it further. If you’ve had multiple speakers on, the sound tends to become dense. The way sound intensifies with each active speaker, it doesn’t have the tone of sound gaining weight. Even without multiple speaker, one alone is a joy!

One key aspect to ensuring that sound is beautiful is Mike developing a product that’s made out of MDF board to assist in channeling the Intersil’s D2 Audio DSP amplifier. It works in tandem with the silicone base frame, and the grille frame that is designed to be invisible to acoustic flow. There are three model types available for this wireless speaker: AirPlay, PlayFi, and Bluetooth.
