At Sony’s press Keynote this Monday afternoon at International CES 2015, CEO Kazuo Hirai opened the night by addressing the recent Sony Picture hack in regards to The Interview. The movie release was originally canceled due to threats from hackers who had already bypassed and accessed Sony’s computer system. However, Sony made a comeback by releasing the film to selected theaters and streamed it on online platforms such as Youtube and Xbox.

Hirai comments that “I have to say freedom of speech, freedom of expression–those are very important lifelines of Sony and our entertainment business,” and attributes the success of The Interview film launch to the support of their partners, the media, and “most importantly the people who have come out to see the movie.”

“I am very proud of all the employees and the partners that we’ve worked with who’ve stood up against the extortionate effort of these criminals.”
