The Assassin’s Creed movie was supposed to be released in theaters this year in August; however, it was pushed back to 2016. Fox has just announced the film’s exact release date, and it will be coming to theaters on December 21, 2016 (via The Wrap).

The movie is based on the video game franchise by Ubisoft and will star Michael Fassbender as the historical and modern day Assassin. In the modern day, his character will be that of a death row inmate. The historical  character is Aguilar de Agarorobo, an assassin during the Spanish Inquisition.

Assassin’s Creed Unity was released last year in November for the Xbox One and PS4. The game was supposed to show the power of the new-gen consoles, but it was filled with bugs and left many gamers upset. The next game in the franchise is reported to be set in 19th century London.
