The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies tops the box office

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has topped the box office this weekend. The film raked in $89.1 million at the box office since it opened last week. Over the three-day weekend, it grossed $54.7 million. The weekend opening is the lowest of the Hobbit Trilogy, but that can be attributed to the movie being the only one to open on a Wednesday.

How does it compare to the Lord of the Rings trilogy? It made less since The Two Towers made $102 million over its 5-day weekend.

Rounding out the top three are Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Annie., grossing $17 million and $15.8 million respectively.
