AMC Theaters testing $35 monthly subscription service

Subscription-based services seems to be all the rage these days, and it seems AMC wants to get in on the action. Just announced this month, AMC has partnered with MoviePass and will be testing out a new monthly subscription service in Boston and Denver area. The subscription will offer two different packages priced at $35 and $45. The thirty-five dollar subscription will offer one movie a day of your choice. For forty-five dollars users will get access to the 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D showings. No word yet when it will expand to other cities. According to AMC, the data taken during this test will determine how they move forward with the service.

I can see the appeal of this subscription during the onslaught of summer blockbusters, but outside of those few months I don’t see the need to pay forty bucks a month. Maybe I’m wrong.
