5 video games with cool Christmas-themed content

Decorating and holiday festivities aren’t just for the real world. Many of our favorite video game characters and worlds also find the time to get into the holiday spirit. Here are a few really cool events that go on in some our favorite games in no particular order.

Animal Crossing

During the winter of Animal Crossing you are treated to a slew of new items, events, tasks, and even characters that only show up during this festive time of year. All versions of Animal Crossing, including the original on GameCube, will have winter-themed content, and they all come with occasional snow days, snow-covered grass and fields. The version you are playing will determine what different things you will see and experience, and these will range from igloos, snowmen, reindeer-type characters, snow-themed gifts and even unique music on certain days. Animal Crossing has probably one of the longest Winter-themed content of all games. Their winter events begin in late November and continue all the way until the 18th of February; however, if you don’t want to wait or if you miss the event, you can always time travel by changing the date on your game so that it falls between this time period.

League of Legends

Every year League adds new winter-themed content to their game, and this year is no different. This time it’s all about the Poros. There are Poro-themed wards, icons, character skins and even a Poro-themed game mode where you can Summon King Poro. This content is all available until January 6th, so log in and check out the awesome skins that Riot has created for us soon before you miss all festivities.

Sims 4

Sims 4 launched their newest careers update and with it came some fun holiday–themed items for you to play with such as holiday sweaters. Fans even had a chance to vote for a sweater to be added to the game. EA decided to sneak in a few more so your Sims can celebrate in style. What’s Christmas without some Holiday Decor? The Holiday Celebration Pack has festive decor and offers other interesting twists to your Sim’s wardrobe. To download this content, all you need to do is log in and update.

Borderlands 2

This piece of content came from last year’s hit and was the third part of Gearbox’s holiday-themed Headhunter DLC set called Mercenary’s Day ($2.99). Picking up this DLC adds a Christmas-themed mission which upon completion will give an unlockable head and skin for each character. The mission takes place in a town called Gingerton, which is located in a snowy area of Frost Bottom. The area also features special enemies such as a carol-singing bandit, Christmas trees, and the rampaging boss monster snowman called Mister Tinder Snowflake. Defeating Mister Tinder Snowflake will unlock the character head, a unique expression for each class, and unique costumes. Some examples include Salvador getting a Santa outfit and Krieg getting an ugly Christmas sweater. This content is still currently available on all platforms.

World of Warcraft

This year World of Warcraft is treating us to the Feast of Winter Veil event that will help channel that inner Kris Kringle in all of us. It’s a reference to the end-of-year seasonal holiday of Christmas and features Greatfather Winter, who is an in-game version of Santa Claus. This festive time of the year allows players to playfully toss snowballs and receive special holiday gifts and sample delicious festive treats. There are also time sensitive items and achievements that you can only obtain during this celebration, so if you are a WoW fan, make sure you complete these events by January 2nd.
