Russo brothers to direct Avengers: Infinity War and produce Spider-Man films?
Yes, more juice has been squeezed from the Sony hack with conversations from Sony Entertainment Chairman Amy Pascal and Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo. We’ve heard Sony and Marvel/Disney discuss the possibility of introducing Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe, and now it looks like Sony may have wanted the Russo brothers’ help to produce the Spider-Man films (via Brazilian site Overtice). Here’s what the email from the Russo brothers to Pascal said when talking about the Spider-Man inclusion in the MCU.
“A pity that negotiations with Marvel did not work.”
Another revelation in the email is that they revealed that they will be directing both Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. Why discuss this part? Because they wanted to reassure her that they will still be directing The Gray Man for Sony.
On November 17th, Joe Russo said in an email to Pascal that they want to produce the Spider-Man films under their new Bullitt production company. Russo said it will be a “difficult conversation” because it will involve current Spider-Man producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad. With many fans not happy with how Avi Arad is running things, he said that it’s a “conversation worth having.” There was no reply from Pascal, then again, Sony Pictures shut down their computer system a week after to handle the Sony hack.
It was also revealed that Pascal was pleading with Sam Raimi to help with the Spider-Man franchise, but in another email, she tells a Sony exec that his help isn’t needed anymore because he went “Joel Schumacher on the third.” Wow!
