3 venerable actors in the running for Doctor Strange’s mentor ‘The Ancient One’

Last week, Marvel has announced that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing the Sorcerer Supreme for Scott Derrickson in Doctor Strange. Now, focus has turned to the Strange’s predecessor  the Ancient One. Latino-Review has revealed that Ken Watanabe, Morgan Freeman and Bill Nighy have all been approached to play Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One.

While its been said that Doctor Strange will not be an origin story, the Ancient One plays a key part to who Doctor Strange is today. In the comics, Strange sought the Ancient One in hopes that the he’ll be able to cure him. After accepting the Ancient One’s offer to teach him the art of mysticism, he eventually became the dimension’s greatest magic practitioner: The Sorcerer Supreme. The Ancient One is also responsible for teaching Strange’s other arch-nemesis, Baron Mordo, who is rumored to be the main villain in Doctor Strange.
