Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer to debut in select theaters this weekend

star wars episode vii the force awakens

There were reported descriptions of the Star War: The Force Awakens teaser trailer saying that it would features glimpses of the characters from the upcoming sci-fi film including a mysterious masked villain. Along with the description, a rumor surfaced saying that we would be seeing the teaser very soon.

Now we have the theater chain, Regal, confirming that the teaser will be debuting this Thanksgiving weekend in select theaters. It’s odd that a teaser trailer would be made available to limited theaters, but Lucasfilm and Disney’s plan seems to be getting a lot of hype.

Regal has said that the teaser trailer will be shown in front of every single movie in their theaters from November 28 to the 30th. The downside is that only 9 Regal theaters have been listed. Here are the theaters below.

  • CA – Irvine — Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX
  • CA – San Diego — Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
  • GA – Atlanta — Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
  • IL – Chicago — Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX
  • NY – New York — Regal Union Square Stadium 14
  • PA – Warrington — Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX
  • TN – Knoxville — Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX
  • TX – Houston — Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX
  • WA – Seattle — Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX

Since this piece of info has been confirmed, a reddit rumor now seems more likely.

For next weekend only (not sure if it’s Fri/Sat/Sun or just Sat/Sun) a 90 second trailer for the new Star Wars will appear before every single showtime for every single movie at 100 theaters nationwide. I don’t know exactly which theaters (except for one). Word has it Disney told all theaters getting the trailer that Big Hero 6 had to be the earliest showtime for each day (assuming that the fans will all buy a ticket to the earliest showing possible).

We’re not sure what other locations are joining, but there should be an update very soon.

Since Disney owns Lucasfilm, it’s a great strategy to have theaters have Big Hero 6 screen the earliest, since they’re likely assuming that Star Wars fans would like to be the first to see the teaser trailer.

Will you be watching a movie just to see the teaser trailer this weekend?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
