Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) Originals figures review

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - All

For the launch of Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) back in September, Disney started off with releasing the Marvel Super Heroes edition that included characters like Captain America, Iron Man, and the Guardians of the Galaxy team. The 2.0 Edition is backwards compatible and included new features, like giving characters new and powerful moves.

Disney hasn’t forgotten about its own original characters, and this week we saw the release of the Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) Original figures and Starter Pack. Some of these include Aladdin, Baymax and Maleficent. Let’s check out the eight new figures.

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Aladdin

Aladdin is one of my favorite Disney films, and I’m happy that he’s included in the first batch of the Originals lineup. Many can relate to the street rat, since he came from humble beginnings. The figure shows off his cocky side, as if he’s taunting the guards of Agrabah. The outfit of choice is the street clothes, but if you have his Prince Ali power disc, you can make him royal. In the game, he has a bunch of melee combos and he can throw his sword at enemies like a boomerang.

Baymax from Big Hero 6

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Baymax

Big Hero 6 is coming out this week in theaters (check out our review here), and if you haven’t fallen for the adorable robot yet, you will. The Baymax figure we get is the battle version that includes wings and red armor. He is getting ready to take off, as you can see from the way his arms and wings are prepared. In the game, he’s able to fly like Iron Man. He’s got melee attacks and his projectile is the ability to shoot his right hand at enemies.

Donald Duck

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Donald Duck

Donald Duck is known to be mischievous, and here we can see that side of him as he’s got the angry look while also crossing his arms. When he’s transported into the game world, his face does look kind of different from the figure, but his personality is intact. His melee attacks consist of using different items, like a pot, and he also throws random items for long-ranged attacks. Imagine the Joker from the Injustice: Gods Among Us fighting game and you’ll kind of get the idea.

Hiro from Big Hero 6

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Hiro

Here we have newcomer Hiro from the new Big Hero 6 animated film. For the figure, we get his superhero version where he’s decked out in armor. (Reminds me of an anime character.) In the film, he’s a genius in robotics, and in the game, he’s got the help from his microbots, so don’t take him lightly.

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Maleficent

Maleficent is the big bad in Sleeping Beauty, but this time we get to have her as a hero, thanks to the live-action Maleficent movie starring Angelie Jolie. This is the new version, as you can tell from pale white skin and full lips. She’s able to use her powers in the game, but it takes time for them to connect.

Merida from Brave

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Merdia

Here we have another strong female character, Merida. The figure features a really cool pose as she gets ready to draw her bow and arrow. It also includes the little Will-o’-the-wisp creature that’s transparent. Another cool thing is that the bow and arrow are rubbery, so if you accidentally drop it, it won’t break. Merida uses her bow as melee attacks in the game, and she can shoot arrows for ranged attacks.

Stitch from Lilo and Stitch

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Stitch

Here’s a figure that will be a hot seller. Stitch is lively as he shows off his smile. His hand, eyes and ears display playfulness. In the game, he has your standard melee attacks, but the coolest thing about the little alien critter is that he can climb walls.

Tinker Bell

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - Tinker Bell

Tinker Bell is one of the most popular Disney characters ever. Here she is displayed on top of a leaf, as something has caught her eye. She’s posing in a lady-like fashion with her wings ready for flight. She’s one of the only female character I think who can fly, and she’s able to maneuver like Baymax and Iron Man.

Power Discs

Disney Infinity Originals 2 - discs

Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) Originals also comes with Power Discs. You’ll be able to buy a package that will contain mystery discs. Some include a hovering surf board from Treasure Planet, Zeus’ bolts from Hercules, a new outfit for Aladdin, and many more.

The cool thing about the figures is that they are around the same size. For example, Tinker Bell is tiny, but if she’s going to cost the same as the other figures, you expect to get your money’s worth. However, the downside to that is if you’re displaying the figures all together, it would look funny, because there’s no sense of scale.
