YouTube Space LA – Halloween 2014

This lovely October, some members of NR and myself were lucky enough to attend the Halloween party at YouTube Space LA. Apparently, the entire set was designed by Guillermo Del Torro, which is beyond cool! I had no idea until after I did some research.

The whole experience started off with a really cool tour of the studio. They completely turned it into a haunted house with loads of different scenarios. We got to go through a twisted carnival type area, with clowns and balloons, and we even saw some zombies, because what is Halloween without zombies?

At the end of the tour, we all waited in line to get our picture taken behind a Halloween-themed backdrop. You can see this picture below. We went for an awkward prom theme.

After taking our photo, everyone on the tour was then lead straight to the party. Let me tell you, this party was packed – in a good way. There were a lot of people there, so the room had plenty of energy. Not only were there loads of people, but they had plenty of food options and drinks to go around; tacos, appetizers, and the perfect alcoholic beverages to suit the theme. They weren’t going to let you go hungry, I’ll tell you that much. Sadly, I wasn’t able to test out any of the food because of my dietary issues, but the rest of the NR crew and the attendees seemed to really enjoy it.

Later, I discovered that the party was taking place in two different locations. It was on the same property, but there was one inside the studio, and another area outside had music, drinks, and food as well. It was more of a resting stop, since there were tables and chairs inside, but it was still fun nonetheless. I personally enjoyed the first area more, but it was nice to have an environment change half way in-between dancing and talking.

About half way through the event, the gogo dancers and some people in the crowd began dancing in sync. Yes, it is exactly what you’re thinking! Flashmob time! It was awesome, and I had no idea it was going to happen so I guess you can say their mission was successful. I’ll have to get in on that next time!

One area I didn’t get to explore or partake in was the fortune telling shenanigans. They had a room off to the side of the main hall, where a tarot card reader would tell you your future and all that jazz. I don’t like to do that stuff, because who wants to know their future before it happens?! Just kidding, a lot of people do but I would rather not tap into that. We did wait in line for a while so that the others could do it, but we were too late and they closed it down before we got a chance.

To end the night, it started to pour down rain just as the party concluded. When I say pour, I mean it POURED. We parked semi far away, so we were all drenched by the time we got back to the car. Was it worth it? Of course it was.

The party overall was extremely fun. I’ve been to parties before, but this one I think takes home the trophy. It was nice to actually do something on Halloween for once. They definitely did a good job on making the party Halloween themed. Trust me, you can throw some decorations together and call it a Halloween party but to make it actually feel like the holiday is something way different. To me, at least. I would highly recommend anyone to go, and spend their holiday there.
