Who will join the fight against Thanos in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War? The full list of characters in the MCU

thanos_infinity_war_teaser

It’s crazy isn’t it? All of this Marvel Studios craziness started with the first after-credits scene in Iron Man. Fast-forward 11 years and we get to watch the culmination of all of this build-up with Avengers: Infinity War. That means we will finally get the ultimate crossover film with over 10 different franchises coming together to take on the Marvel universe’s most formidable foe: Thanos.

If you’ve read the comics, you know just how powerful Thanos can be with the Infinity Gauntlet, and it will take every character Marvel Studios has put out to take down the Mad Titan. I’m here to breakdown the roster (with the addition of potential new characters) that will join the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

(?) designates as a maybe

the_avengers_team_header
• Captain America
• Iron Man
• Thor
• Hulk
• Scarlet Witch
• Quicksilver
• Ant-Man
• Doctor Strange
• Black Panther
• War Machine
• Falcon
• Vision/J.A.R.V.I.S.

Here is your core group of Earthbound heroes that will join the fight. Joss Whedon has said that Thanos will have a part in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so the Avengers will have a first taste of Thanos when he goes after the Mind gem (Loki’s staff).

guardians_of_the_galaxy_team_header
• Star-Lord
• Gamora
• Drax the Destroyer
• Rocket Raccoon
• Groot
• Captain Marvel
• Nova Prime
• Rhomann Dey
• Yondu Udonta (?)
• Richard Rider (?)
• Cosmo (?)
• Adam Warlock (?)
• Quasar (?)
• Moondragon (?)

Peter Quill will finally make his way home to Earth and I can’t wait to see the interaction between the various Guardians and some of the Avengers. I’m also hoping that Richard Rider and Adam Warlock joins the fight as well.

the_inhumans_team_header
• Black Bolt (?)
• Medusa (?)
• Crystal (?)
• Karnak (?)
• Gorgon (?)
• Triton (?)
• Lockjaw (?)
• Skye (?)

The Inhumans and the royal family are being set up as the “mutants” of the MCU since actual mutants are on lock over at Fox. With Kevin Feige stating that, “dozens of new heroes” will be revealed in the Inhumans film (and possibly Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

shield_team_header
• Nick Fury
• Maria Hill
• Director Phil Coulson
• Black Widow
• Hawkeye
• Sharon Carter
• Mockingbird
• Melinda May
• Leo Fitz
• Gemma Simmons
• Grant Ward (?)
• Antoine Triplett
• Lance Hunter
• Alphonso ‘Mac’ Mackenzie
• Peggy Carter (“Agent Carter” Season 2/3?)
• The Howling Commandos/SSR (“Agent Carter” Season 2/3?)
• Howard Stark (“Agent Carter” Season 2/3?)

With the amount of heroes going up against Thanos, you will need the spies and the soldiers to fight the battle as well. Just like in the comics world, you have your main story and all the side stories to help fill in the gaps of the main story. Using the television medium as a way to tell the side stories would be a great way to get more immersed in this huge battle.

asgardians_team_header
• Lady Sif
• Heimdall
• Fandral
• Hogun
• Volstagg
• Odin (?)

With the fate of the galaxy on the line, you will definitely need the help of the gods in this battle. Whether or not there will be any Asgardians left after Thor: Ragnarok remains to be seen, but it’d be a shame to keep the gods out of the fight.

the_defenders_team_header
• Daredevil
• Iron Fist
• Luke Cage
• Jessica Jones

Similar to the use of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to help fill in the gaps of the main story, The Defenders could also tell the story of how 4 vigilantes can save the galaxy as well.

redeemable_villains_team_header
• Loki
• Winter Soldier/Bucky
• Nebula
• Deathlok
• The Collector

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” are wise words when it comes to these characters. We know of these villains plans, but if they’re being jeopardized by Thanos then why not join the fight? After all, even Doctor Doom joined the fight against Thanos in the Infinity Gauntlet story.

scientists_team_header
• Jane Foster
• Erik Selvig
• Hank Pym

Last but not least you will need the brains of various scientists to help take on Thanos. After all Tony, Banner and T’Challa can’t do it all by themselves.

2018 and 2019 is shaping up to be a dominant two years for the comic giant. They’re overtaking various forms of media those two years to help tell the story of Avengers: Infinity War. This is what we’ve all been waiting for since Avengers. This is the combination of franchises that we’ve all been dreaming about and it’s finally coming true. I can’t wait.

Avengers: Infinity War decimates theaters on May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019.
