Golden Heart Awards recap

GoldenHeartAwards

On September 30th, the Beverly Wilshire brought the who’s who of the industry to celebrate a charity and the 100th birthday of a charitable organization. The Midnight Mission Golden Heart Awards Gala honored some of its most hardworking members including Carrie Fisher and Arlene Van Dyke for being an amazing force for the cause.

The night included performances by Richie Sambora and Orianthi and more including Ray Parker Jr. A silent auction filled with everything from signed Star Wars action figures to guitars was also present at this night of stars. Not to mention a public reunion fresh off the plane from the current filming of Star Wars with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

But what is the Midnight Mission and why is it such a passion for so many? Nerd Reactor was on the red carpet to get more information on this great cause:

It’s not just about the Holidays. They need help everyday of the year. They have a website. You can sign up to volunteer at midnightmission.org. They have a great website. I don’t feel worthy of this award and so I’m just like what else can I do to feel worthy of this award?

-Arlene Van Dyke

Arlene Van Dyke, more than a wife and advocate for the Midnight Mission, proves why she is being honored. There’s always something more you can do, and our honoree knows it and wants you to get involved:

The Midnight Mission offers a path to self-sufficiency to men, women and children who have lost everything. Our emergency services, 12-step Recovery Program, job training, education and work programs offer a compassionate bridge to productive lives. We remove obstacles to self-sufficiency and provide the accountability and structure that people who are experiencing homelessness need to rejoin their communities. Our conviction and commitment to their success define us.

The Midnight Mission has provided care to those who are often forgotten for 100 years, and they are still going strong. With support from Carrie Fisher, Tim Allen, and Dick Van Dyke, the charity continues to make differences one person at a time.

The Golden Heart Awards was not only a night of stars, it was a night of spreading the word about how even by doing what you may think is just a little thing, you are in fact making someone’s world. With addiction, The Midnight mission gives you support. With jobs and education they are there, and with bringing a bit of cheer to the holidays for those in need, they got this.

So here’s to a great night, and another 100 years of The Midnight Mission.
